What is RENIP?

The National Network of Isotopes in Precipitation (RENIP) is a systematic monitoring program of the isotopic composition of rainfall in Mexico, operated by the IMTA Isotope Hydrology Laboratory.

Since 2019, RENIP has collected monthly precipitation samples at more than 29 strategically distributed stations throughout the country, analyzing stable water isotopes: deuterium (²H) and oxygen-18 (¹⁸O).

Applications

  • Characterization of aquifer recharge
  • Study of groundwater origin
  • Validation of climate models
  • Paleoclimatic research
  • Integrated water resource management
