Isotope Analysis
The IMTA Isotope Hydrology Laboratory has state-of-the-art instrumental facilities and methodologies for measuring the isotopic composition of water.
Isotope Hydrology Laboratory
Our laboratory is equipped with cutting-edge technology to perform high-precision isotopic analyses on water samples. We use laser spectroscopy and mass spectrometry to determine the isotopic composition of water.
As part of the IAEA regional project RLA7024 "Integration of isotope hydrology in national water resource assessments", Mexico participates as a pilot country, contributing to the incorporation of isotopes in water assessments.

Types of Analysis
We offer various isotopic analysis services to characterize natural water samples.
Stable Isotopes of Hydrogen and Oxygen
Determination of δ²H and δ¹⁸O in water samples using laser spectrometry.
Environmental Tritium Content
Determination by electrolytic enrichment and liquid scintillation counting.
Carbon-14
Measurement by benzene synthesis.
Certified Quality
The instrumental infrastructure and measurement methodologies used at the IMTA laboratory have been qualified through intercomparison exercises organized by the IAEA.
- IC-LAC-2018 - IAEA intercomparison exercise
- IC-LAC-2022 - IAEA intercomparison exercise
- TRIC2018 - IAEA tritium test
- TRIC2022 - IAEA tritium test
